If you enjoy wildlife watching and combining other activities and interests during your holiday, then the Speyside Specialities Break is most definitely for you! This package combines the very best of guided and self guided nature watching and is frankly the nearest thing to guaranteed sightings of those classic Speyside species. Wild Caledonia specializes in getting you close to many of the country’s must see species and landscapes and if you have always wanted to see Golden Eagles, Peregrine Falcons and Ospreys then you are in for a real treat.

We are delighted to partner the Bird Watching and Wildlife Club in delivering this thoroughly enjoyable wildlife experience. During your stay you will have the opportunity to book one, two or all three field trips to see many of Scotland’s iconic species. Each field trip lasts approximately four hours and takes you to each of the classic Speyside habitats. The beauty of the holiday is that you are then free to head of and explore yourself, be it Caledonian Pine Forest, an array of historic sites or one of the many famous Speyside Distilleries.

Each field trip costs just £40 per person which is inclusive of VAT and includes all your travel, guiding and complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits.

Trip one: Caledonian Pine Forest for Crested Tit, Capercaillie, Black Grouse, Scottish Crossbill, Redstart, Dipper,Red Squirrel and Roe Deer.

Trip two:  Highland Lochs and Moors for Black and Red throated Diver, Red Grouse, Golden Plover, Osprey, Slavonian Grebe, Stonechat and Common Sandpiper.

Trip three: Mountains and Glens for Golden Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Ring Ouzel, Common Buzzard, Common Gull, Curlew, Merlin, Red Deer, Mountain Hare and Feral Goat.

Should you need them, we have a range of binoculars, telescopes and cameras for use by all and we will ensure you don’t miss anything! Wild Caledonia’s field trips are designed to discover Scotland’s dramatic species and landscapes whilst developing your knowledge of the countryside through wildlife experiences and close encounters with Britain’s most iconic species. Each trip is backed by a professional support team of suitably experienced leaders and ecologists to ensure you are led to the very best locations to obtain memories and pictures of many of Scotland’s species and landscapes. The Grant Arms Hotel in the centre of the town and is an excellent base for our adventures. After a day in the countryside it’s great to come back to a warm and welcoming environment and a hearty meal. The hotel menu is a creative blend of imaginative cuisine and traditional Scottish dishes, all served in a lovely restaurant and why not meet later in the bar and over a drink, reminisce over the days experiences.

Above all, we never forget that you’re on holiday and this is important to us. We always take time to relax and appreciate the wildlife around us. A basic level of fitness is required to enjoy the field trips but we always tailor our itinerary to suit our guest’s requirements.  However, in general terms each location is selected to be within everyone’s capability and offers an opportunity to enjoy a fantastic fieldtrip and encounter the birds, plants and mammals that you have always wanted to see.
